Daniel Freeman (1837-1918) is perhaps most remembered as the founder of Inglewood, California. The Daniel Freeman Family Papers richly document this story as well as the other business and land development enterprises of this significant California developer and businessmen in the late nineteenth century. The collection contains extensive documentation on the California land boom of the late 1880s--principally for Inglewood but also for Redondo Beach and Port Ballona--and some material on downtown Los Angeles. Also included in this collection are the business records of Charles Howland (1863-1934) and Grace Freeman Howland (1870-1956), Daniel Freeman's son-law and daughter. The Freeman papers are also valuable for their holdings documenting the growth of California agribusiness in the late nineteenth century.
