Acceptable Use Policy


Policy on Internet Access


The Loyola Marymount University Library operates under the guiding principles of the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights.  Those principles include:


"Libraries should provide materials and information presenting all points of view on current and historical issues.  Materials should not be proscribed or removed because of partisan or doctrinal disapproval."


A person’s right to use a library should not be denied or abridged because of origin, age, background, or views.


Basic Points



1.  The library operates under the American Library Association Bill of Rights and respects user privacy when using Internet workstations.

2.  The library is not responsible for the information users find on Internet workstations nor the accuracy of that information.

3.  The parents of minors are responsible for their children’s access to the Internet.

4.  The user may encounter material she or he and/or other patrons find(s) offensive on the Internet.

5.  Minors may only use Internet workstations if accompanied by an adult or have a letter from the parent permitting unsupervised Internet access (letter must contain a telephone number for contacting the parent to verify approval).

6.  The library prohibits the use of personal software on Internet workstations.

7.  The library prohibits violation of copyright or software licenses while using Internet workstations.

8.  The library prohibits any attempt to tamper with or violate system security, either on the workstation or through the use of the Internet.  Persons doing so will be barred from further use of library workstations.

9.  The library prohibits viewing pornographic material on library Internet workstations.  Anyone found in violation will be barred from further use of library workstations.

10.  The library prohibits using Internet workstations to harass others.

11.  The library prohibits illegal activities on Internet workstations.

12.  The library prohibits misrepresenting oneself on the Internet while using library workstations.
