General Policies

Cell Phones

Quiet phone conversations are allowed on Level 1 and Level 2 of the library. Cell phones must be set to vibrate upon entering the library. Level 3 is a quiet floor, so phone conversations should be limited to group study rooms. Please respect others' needs for quiet areas.

Filming and Photography

Filming, video recording, and photography are allowed, whether for student projects or commercial purposes, only with permission from the Dean of the Library or the Associate Dean. Please contact Library Administration at 310-338-4593.

Food and Drink

The Jazzman Cafe and adjacent media lounge are the best places for eating and drinking within the library. However, drinks with lids and dry snack foods may be brought into most areas of the library; food and drinks are prohibited in Archives & Special Collections. For complete policy, click here.

Group Study Rooms

The Library has 33 group study rooms, some for general use and some for more specialized use, such as viewing videos and listening to sound recordings. All rooms have power and data. Group study rooms are available to LMU students, faculty, and staff. They may be scheduled in advance through the RoomWizard system starting in the fall. Individuals may use these rooms, but groups have priority for all but the presentation rooms on the first floor. Individuals will be asked to vacate a group study room if there are no other room available. For the complete policy, click here

Lockers

Starting in the fall semester public lockers will be available free of charge on Level 1 and Level 3. Located in a hallway to the left of the Circulation desk, some of the lockers on Level 1 have power, so users may charge their laptops, cell phones, or other devices while using the library. Other lockers are large enough to accommodate a backpack or skateboard. The Level 3 lockers are located outside Archives & Special Collections and designed primarily for their users; however, empty lockers may be used by any library user. The public lockers are not meant for long-term use and will be cleared every morning when the library opens. Items found in lockers will be bagged and taken to the library's lost-and-found in Circulation.

Faculty lockers are located in the Faculty Commons on Level 3. These lockers are designed for long-term use. A faculty member may be assigned the use of a locker for one semester. Lockers may be renewed in subsequent semesters unless there is a waiting list. Locker assignments are handled by the Circulation Department.

Payment

All library fines and fees are payable by check, credit card, or OneCard flexi-dollars. We do not accept cash for any transaction.

The photocopiers, printers, scanner, and microfilm/fiche reader accept OneCard and credit cards. Flexi-dollar value may be added to your OneCard at the Value Transfer Station (VTS) adjacent to the Information Commons on the first floor.

The Thesis/Dissertation Binding Fee may be paid at the library by check, credit card, or OneCard flexi-dollars. If you wish to pay cash, you must go to the University Cashier and bring proof of payment to Library Administration.

Posting Announcements

Flyers for university events may be posted on the designated bulletin board in Jazzman Cafe. All flyers should be signed and dated by the poster. The library reserves the right to remove flyers from the bulletin board when outdated, to make space for new flyers, or if the content of the flyer is deemed obscene or offensive. Flyers posted elsewhere in the library will be removed.
