The Collection Development Department is responsible for developing and maintaining the library's print and electronic resource collections. We do this by assessing and monitoring collection strengths and deficiencies to develop the collection to support current and future universities academic needs.
The collection development librarian is aided in collection planning by faculty library representatives and librarian subject selectors who select materials in their subjects and by the Media & Reserves Coordinator who selects videos, DVDs, CDs, and other media.
Faculty Ordering
LMU faculty participation is essential in building the library's colllections. Faculty are encouraged to order books and other materials using our online form. The procedures for suggesting a periodical can be found here. Faculty questions about their department's policies and needs can be directed to their academic department's faculty library representative. Questions about the collection can be directed to Glenn Johnson-Grau.
The Department monitors two book approval plans with the vendors YBP and Midwest Library Service, tailoring subject profiles according to academic department curriculum needs. The Collection Development Librarian and the librarian subject selectors consult with faculty in determining content and emphasis for each department's profile. Faculty regularly receive book notification slips that can be returned to the Acquisitions/Serials Department for order.
