Series 9: other book projects. Subseries A: Burk-Davis Publications

Subseries dates: 1971-1990

Besides writing her book on the Ambassador Hotel and the Cocoanut Grove, Are the Stars Out Tonight, Margaret Tante Burk was involved in several other book projects, the records of which are found in Series 9. This includes various efforts to develop authors' manuscripts for publication, found here in Subseries A. Her principal effort was in partnership with Richard Davis. The pair formed the "book-packaging firm" of Burk-Davis Publications, with the goal of developing books on Hollywood history and stars. Series 9, Subseries A consists of publicity material for their firm and its products, book manuscripts and proposals, and correspondence. Some materials on book development is not related to the Burk-Davis enterprise but rather to other, independent projects; see Box 1, Folder 12, for example. The titles that Margaret Tante Burk assigned to the folders are found in parentheses at the beginning of the "Contents" field.

Series 9: other book projects. Subseries B: final curtain

Subseries size: 3 archival document boxes
Subseries dates: 1973-2004

Besides writing her book on the Ambassador Hotel and the Cocoanut Grove, Are the Stars Out Tonight, Margaret Tante Burk was involved in several other book projects, the records of which are found in Series 9.  Subseries B of this series contains the research materials used for Margaret Burk's book on cemeteries in the Los Angeles area and their famous occupants, Final Curtain, published in 1996. Materials consist of color photographs, cemetery brochures and maps, newspaper clippings, an index of the book, and personal notes such as lists of celebrity graves. The titles that Margaret Tante Burk assigned to the folders are found in parentheses at the beginning of the "Contents" field.

Subseries size: 2 archival document boxes
Subseries dates: 1985-2007

Besides writing her book on the Ambassador Hotel and the Cocoanut Grove, Are the Stars Out Tonight, Margaret Tante Burk was involved in several other book projects, the records of which are found in Series 9. Margaret Tante Burk received a commission from the leadership of the Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital to write a history of this medical institution. The series' holdings consist of correspondence, newspaper clippings, fact sheets, photographs, and rough drafts of the book manuscript (the book was never published).
