Request an Item from Our Library
Look for this request button to use our retrieval service!
You can place a request online for books, journals, or media items from basement storage to be picked up later. We will retrieve them for you. Books and journals will be held at the Circulation Desk on Level One of the library, and Media items will be held at the Media & Reserves Desk on Level Two.
If an item in the library catalog has a request button at the top of the page, click the button and follow the prompts to make your request.
If we are unable to locate a requested item, we will notify you that a search has been initiated, and you will be notified again when the item is found.
What types of items can be requested?
- Items located in Basement Storage and the Main Stacks can be requested. If the library catalog shows that a book is in the Main Stacks and the status is "Available," you can go to the stacks to find the book yourself, or you can place a request to have the book retrieved and held at the Circulation Desk.
- Items that CANNOT be requested online include reserve materials, non-basement media items, reference books, and any non-circulating materials.
- Electronic Document Delivery: LMU faculty, staff, and students can also request digital copies of articles and book chapters from the library's print and microfilm/microfiche collection. Allow up to three days for delivery to your email address. Please use ILLIad for articles; you may also request book chapters using this form.
What is the turnaround time?
Online requests take up to 4-6 hours to retrieve. You will be notified by email when the item(s) are ready for pickup.
Walk-up requests at the Circulation Desk generally take 30 minutes; however, multiple item requests may take longer.
All retrieval requests will stop 2 hours before the end of Full service hours; requests received after that time will be fulfilled the next day.
How long will we hold the material at the Circulation or Media Desk?
Retrieved items will be held for 7 days.
Who can request books?
All current LMU library patrons with borrowing privileges can request a book online. You will be prompted to log on after clicking the request button in the catalog.
Patrons without borrowing privileges may only request items from Basement Storage, and may not remove these items from the library building. Requests must be made in person at the Circulation Desk; a valid photo I.D. is required.
