This collection consists of the legal records documenting the incorporation in 1961 of the various business holdings of Jack Wrather into a publicly owned company. Jack Wrather (1918-1984) was one of the leading businessmen in the United States, producing such television shows as Lassie and the Lone Ranger, and owning the Disneyland Hotel. His companies incorporated under the rubric of "Wrather Investment Corporation" in 1961 included Wrather Hotels, Inc.; Lone Ranger, Inc.; Lone Ranger Television, Inc.; Lone Ranger Pictures, Inc.; Lassie Television, Inc.; and the Muzak Corporation.
The 676 pages of documents are bound by board with a hard covering; there is an index at the beginning of the materials. The documents consist of articles of incorporation, legal opinions, board meeting minutes, state certificates of authenticity, correspondence, underwriting agreements, and federal registration forms. Henry Pollard, former legal counsel for the Wrather Corporation and one of the architects of the incorporation, was responsible for the organization of the documents and donated them to the CSLA Research Collection in 2005. For more complete sources on the Wrather Corporation and the life of Jack Wrather, see this related CSLA collection: Jack and Bonita Granville Wrather Papers, CSLA-23.
