Replacement Charge Appeal Policy
If you have been billed for the replacement cost of an item (book, DVD, equipment, etc.) due to non-return, those charges will be waived once the item is checked in at the library. If the library replaces the billed item before it can be returned, the charges will not be waived (there will be no refunds or tuition credits). The library will replace the material within 3 months of becoming billed.
Failure to return material once it has become billed will result in a block towards library privileges (including interlibrary loan) until the billed material is returned or the charges paid. For more information regarding library charges, please review the fines policy.
Damaged / Lost Item Policy
If the material checked out becomes lost, damaged, or stolen notify Circulation Services department immediately. If you believe the item can be replaced less expensively, you must contact the Circulation Services department at circulation@lmu.edu or 310-338-5709, before purchasing a replacement yourself so we can determine if the book replacement option is available.
Replacement Charge Waiver Request
If you have received a bill and believe it is in error, or you would like to request your billed amount be reduced/waived, please email circulation@lmu.edu. Requests must be submitted within 30 calendar days of the date the bill is issued. Your fee waiver or reduction request will be reviewed within two weeks of submission, and you will receive notification once a decision is made.
Please be advised that the items you check out from the library are your responsibility, and replacement fees will not be waived due to neglect or lack of knowledge about the return policies. For example, replacement fees will not be waived if:
· The item was damaged, lost or stolen while checked out from the library
· You returned the item by mail, and it failed to arrive or was received after we already purchased a replacement
· You failed to update your current email address and did not read the overdue/fine notice
