General Collections @ the Library

The collections of the William H. Hannon Library are intended to:

  • Support the teaching and learning of LMU faculty and students across all schools and colleges
  • Support the mission of the university
  • Located on level 2, the Curriculum Materials Collection (CMC) is designed to support LMU's School of Education students and faculty with their methods and practicum courses and to enhance the teaching of children’s and young adult literature. In addition, CMC serves as a supplementary resource of non-circulating materials for local schools, particularly Catholic schools in the Los Angeles area. For more information, please see our Curriculum Materials Collection LibGuide.

For information on borrowing from the CMC, see the Curriculum Materials Collection Borrowing Rules.

  • The media collection is comprised of more than 60,000 items, including DVDs, CDs, videocassettes, streaming video, Blu-ray, CD-ROMs, LPs, and microfilm. Highlights include a full collection of Shakespeare plays, numerous documentaries, new and vintage feature films and over 1000 screenplays.

  • The Popular Reading Collection (PRC) is a unique feature of the William H. Hannon Library, designed to encourage easy browsing and discovery of reading material for pleasure or relaxation. You will find the PRC on level 2 in the Rose Hills Reading Room, adjacent to the fireplace. The PRC is comprised of recent fiction and non-fiction award-winners and bestsellers, along with some perennial classics. For information on borrowing from the PRC, see the Popular Reading Collection Borrowing Rules.

  • Collection development in every library depends on the strategic acquisition of materials. The William H. Hannon Library welcomes gifts of materials which are within the scope of its collections policies and which support the teaching, research, and curricular needs of LMU faculty and students.

If you wish to contact the library in regards to a donation of physical materials, please carefully read the Gift of Materials policy, then email or call Nataly Blas (she/her), Collection Development Librarian at Nataly.Blas@lmu.edu or 310.338.5329.

Please note that from March 1, 2018 until further notice, due to staff and space required for a significant collection assessment project, we are unable to accept any unsolicited donations for the general collection. Thank you for your understanding.

Through the work of librarian liaisons collaborating with LMU faculty, the collection grows every day. Please contact the Collection Development Librarian with inquiries related to policies and procedures through which the university’s library collections are developed and evaluated.

The William H. Hannon Library welcomes suggestions for materials to be added to our collections. LMU faculty requests are prioritized, and all suggestions will be reviewed for alignment with our collection development policies before purchase. Please select the appropriate form below:
